Board Application

Dear Board Applicant:

The credit union’s nominating committee is seeking candidates to fill four openings on the 2021 Liberty FCU Board of Directors. Applicants are required to be primary members age 18 or older with active accounts in good standing for at least one year prior to the annual meeting that will be held March 9, 2021 in Evansville. Applicants may not have an immediate family member, (spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, grandchild, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, or similar adoptive relationship), who is a paid employee of the credit union or its subsidiaries.

The board includes 11 directors who volunteer their time and expertise by attending monthly meetings and serving on various board committees. Each director serves a three year term.  The National Credit Union Administration requires that board members of federal credit unions meet these guidelines:

  • Directors’ fiduciary duties include the duty to carry out his or her duties in good faith, in a manner that such director reasonably believes to be in the best interest of the membership of the FCU as a whole, and with such care, including reasonable inquiry, as an ordinarily prudent person in a like position would use under similar circumstances.
  • Also, board of directors must administer the affairs of the credit union fairly and impartially, without discrimination in favor or against any particular member or group of members.
  • Further, directors must be “financially literate,” which includes the ability to understand the credit union’s balance sheet and income statement within six months of election. Directors must be willing to participate, if elected, in training opportunities provided so they would be able to meet these guidelines.
  • Directors must also direct the operations of the credit union in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as sound business practices.
